Research is a Critical Component in Decision-Making

The Center for State Higher Education Policy Research will provide state higher education executive officers and their staff members with access to high-quality research, data, and emerging best practices to increase institutional quality and productivity.

Designed to improve the way state higher education leaders access information, the Research Center will provide one place to reference the most relevant information affecting their institutions. Our expert researchers will identify, conduct and summarize data to inform decisions. Recent examples of our research include reports on topics such as developing financial aid metrics in state data systems and measuring how state agencies and systems of higher education can further college attainment across racial and ethnic groups.

Research remains critical in policy-making efforts and ensuring state leaders are informed of the latest trends on the national level. Access to empirical data and insights enables leaders to interpret and adopt new policies and practices at their organizations.

Rethink

Higher Education Leaders Share Knowledge, Gain Skills

The State Higher Education Policy Academy will provide professional development opportunities to strengthen foundational knowledge, skills and collaboration representative of the diversity of students in higher education today. The Academy will aim to recruit diverse participants and educate participants on equity-mindedness in an effort to diversify state higher education leadership and agencies.

Consisting of a 12-month program with three multi-day sessions, the Academy will provide an environment for participants to work with partner organizations across state lines and learn from colleagues. The program will include formal instruction and focused dialogue. These activities are meant to facilitate innovation and the development of new policies and practices within postsecondary education. They also foster strong professional relationships that can help these leaders widen their network for the duration of their careers.

Academy leaders will challenge participants to reimagine how they network and build on their relationships to lead more effectively. We will provide opportunities for leaders and their staff members to hone skills specific to their positions that can affect the entire higher education community.
